During installation I am asked for a product serial number, I don't have one
You do not require a product serial number to run the trial version of our software. When installing any Reallusion products if you enter the words 'trial version' as the serial number the software will install with some features restricted. If you wish to later upgrade and un-lock any restricted features you simply are required to enter a valid product serial number which you will receive if you purchase via our online store. You can visit our online store at: https://www.reallusion.com/purchase.asp In short, simply type 'trial version' for your product serial number.

During installation "error: RPC.STUB incompatible, install will now terminate"
This appears to be a common problem caused by Microsoft releasing a new dll that is not compatible with Win98. Some developers have made an installer which includes this dll, thereby destroying your system. Here is a fix:

Download: https://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/Patch/1.0/WIN98/EN-US/mcrepair.EXE

Then run it, and when it prompts you to overwrite newer files, make sure you click YES for each file (not "No" or "No to all"). This will replace all of the 3.50 DLLs from XP with older versions compatible with Windows 98 (2.40.4515).

This patch works for Win98 users.

Where or how do I access the bonus model packs ?
Due to the file size, and for your convenience the bonus model packs are split into downloadable files approximately 10MB in size. These are accessible at any time from the Bonus Download page which can be found at the following location:

To access the bonus model packs you are required to first login using your username and password. If you have not already registered your product details you will need to do so at the following location:

https://www.reallusion.com/registration.asp

There are currently 3 model packs available and more being added all the time.

Do I need to download again after purchasing
After purchasing Effect3D Studio you do not need to download the version from the online store. If you are running Effect3D Studio in Trial mode you can enter your serial number in the following way:

• Open either the Effect3D Studio application, at the prompt screen select the "Purchase" button.
• At the bottom of the Purchase screen, you will see the following "Enter your serial number to confirm your purchase", enter your serial number in the box and click OK.

This will then run Effect3D Studio in standard mode with all the functions enabled.

Error Message: "Error during initializing direct draw"
The most common reason for this error is due to the host system running in 256 color mode. Effect3D must be run in High color (16bit) or True color (24bit) mode. This can quickly and easily be changed in the display settings found in your control panel.

If this does not solve your problem, ensure you have the correct or most recent video card drivers installed for you display adapter. Refer to your display adapter manufacturers information for updates regarding Direct draw support.

Can I add 3D animated objects or text to my 2D graphic files
Yes, you can import a 2D image as the background of your project, this allows you to apply animated 3D objects or 3D text on top of your images.

Can I import and animate 2D graphic files in 3D
Yes, you can import a 2D image with a 3D photo frame or you can apply the image as a texture map onto an existing 3D object. These can then both be animated in the same way as any 3D object.

Can I add 3D object and 3D text in the same scene
Effect3D Studio is not a multi-scene environment, this means you can only have 1 3D object in the scene at a time. You cannot have both a 3D object and a 3D text object animated in the scene.

You can apply an object to the background allowing you to add multiple 3D objects, however only the last 3D object can be animated. For more information about Linear Editing view the downloadable reference guide.

There are so many effect parameters I don't know where to start
Take it easy, most of the time you can figure out what the effect parameters are changing just by the names, which are pretty intuitive - such as line width, line color, etc.

If you're not sure what an effect parameter is, don't be afraid to play around with the settings and apply it to your image. The worst case scenario is that you just need to click the "reset" button to undo your changes. Have some fun with it!

What is a custom animation
Some 3D models contained in the model archive are supplied with an inbuilt customized animation sequence. These animation sequences are designed for and can only be applied to the specific model. For instance the "Electric fan" model has a inbuilt animation sequence that spins the fan blades and rotates the fan head.

Do the web effects support both IE & Netscape
The JavaScript effects support both IE & Netscape. All the JavaScript effects are supported under IE (Glow & Wave require IE5.0 or above).

JavaScript effects that are not supported by Netscape include any that indicate (IE) in the title. Of these the Flying Image effect is only supported by Netscape 4.75 & 7.0 and the Shaking effect is only supported by Netscape 7.0.
