Issue 12478
Using Morph Sliders to make adjustments to an expression in Facial Profile Editor breaks the Facial Profile Editor
There seems to be a new bug in 5.06 that happens when I go into the Facial Profile Editor and click the Morph Slider button and start making expression adjustments using morph sliders. Character Creator states that I'm trying to make changes to the overall character shape instead of the expression when I pull any slider, and changes the Morph Slider tab from Expression to All, permanently changing the mesh based on the morph slider I was using.

I've easily recreated it on multiple characters/projects. I just open the Facial Profile Editor, click the Morph Slider button under Expression Tools, run the blendshape I'm trying to adjust, and pull any arbitrary morph slider. The program will say that it's attempting to save and then come up with the warning
"Character contains edits which have not yet been applied to expressions - these changes will be lost, do you wish to proceed?"
Hitting OK or cancel makes permanent changes to the mesh and the used slider does not show up in the Currently Used tab.

This is a pretty key feature to the program, I'm hoping someone can look into this soon!

Hi ken_741248,

I hope you are having a good week! I am just checking in one more time regarding your ticket about the Facial Profile Editor issue.

Because we are unable to trigger this bug using standard default characters, we still really need your help to clarify how your custom character was created or modified (as requested in our previous messages). Without this information, our developers are unfortunately unable to proceed with the investigation.

If you have already found a workaround, or if you are currently too busy to look into this, please just let us know so we can go ahead and close this ticket for now.

Please don't worry—if you still need help later, you can always reply to this thread or open a new ticket whenever you have the time, and we will gladly pick up right where we left off!

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,
Kayla

Hello! Yes, here's a link to a Google Drive folder with some videos and a project file.

So weirdly enough, the bug doesn't appear when working with a default project file like Aaron or the Toon characters, but it does appear on all of my custom characters. I have two videos, one to show the bug happening on three different characters, and the other video showing the bug not working following the same process on default characters (which seems to be the case on your end too). I also tried different things like changing the scale of the character via Proportions but that didn't do anything to recreate the bug.
Hopefully you'll be able to recreate it with the custom project file!

Thanks for your help and response! Hopefully we can figure this thing out.

Hi ken_741248,

I hope you are doing well! I am writing to quickly follow up on your ticket regarding the Facial Profile Editor issue.

Have you had a chance to review our previous questions regarding how your custom character was created or modified?

Knowing if the character was imported from another software, or if any manual adjustments were made to the bones or base mesh, is crucial for our developers to pinpoint the root cause of this bug.

Please let us know your workflow whenever you have a moment. We are standing by and would be happy to continue investigating this for you!

Thank you for your time.

Best regards,
Kayla

Hi ken_741248,

Thank you so much for providing the project file and the videos! These are incredibly helpful.

We have received and reviewed the files. Based on the behavior shown in the video and the warning message that pops up, it usually indicates that some modifications have been made to the bones or the base mesh that are not related to the expression system itself.

To help us narrow down the exact cause, could you please tell us a bit more about how this custom character was created or modified?

For example:

  - Did you import this character from another software (like ZBrush, Blender, or Maya)?

  - Were there any manual adjustments made to the character's skeleton, bone hierarchy, or base mesh proportions before encountering this issue?

  - Did you use any specific plugins or third-party tools during the creation process?

Understanding the origin and the modification history of this custom character will greatly assist our team in reproducing the exact condition and identifying the underlying issue.

Thank you again for your valuable time and cooperation!

Best regards,
Kayla

Hi ken_741248,

Thank you for the incredibly detailed report. You are absolutely right that adjusting morphs via the Expression Tools should not trigger a base mesh change or the overwrite warning.

We have been trying to reproduce this issue on our end using CC 5.06, but we haven't been able to trigger the exact same warning or tab switch yet.

Since you mentioned this is easily recreated on your end, we want to figure out exactly what step or specific character setup we might be missing. To help our developers pinpoint the exact cause, could you please provide:

The Project/Character File: The specific file you are working on right before entering the Facial Profile Editor.

A Screen Recording: A short video showing your step-by-step process, from opening the FPE, selecting the Morph Slider, to the exact moment the warning pops up.

You can upload the files to a cloud service (like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive) and share the link with us.

We appreciate your help in squashing this bug!

Best regards,
Kayla
