3ds Max auto setup hit an error when binding Biped and CAT bones and couldn’t complete.
I'm running the Character Creator Auto Setup for 3DSMax 2023-2025, under the tab of Body Rig, with the Biped rig option checked, and every time it gets stuck with this error I can't get passed.
1.I downloaded 3ds Max auto setup V1.0 from the official site.
2.I followed the installation guide and installed all versions of auto setup (2023–2025), then launched the plugin from the menu bar.
3.After importing the FBX file successfully, when I tried to bind the Biped and CAT skeletons, the progress bar for Biped got stuck at 0%, and for CAT it got stuck at 25%.
I’ve tried reinstalling it, installing it manually, and even switching to a different version of 3ds Max, but nothing has worked. I’m not sure how to fix this—could you help me out?
Hi si_voice,
Thank you for your detailed report and for providing the MAXScript monitor output screenshot. Please accept our apologies for the delayed response.
We have forwarded the error logs you provided to our development team for investigation regarding the binding failure with Biped and CAT skeletons.
To help our engineers accurately reproduce and debug this script error on our end, could you please provide the specific .FBX file and its accompanying .JSON file that you are trying to import when this freeze happens?
Sometimes specific character proportions or bone structures can cause the script to hang, so having your exact file is the quickest way for us to find a fix. You can upload the files to a cloud service (like Google Drive or Dropbox) and share the link with us here.
Thank you very much for your help and patience!
Best regards,
Kayla

Hi si_voice,
I hope you are doing well! I am just checking in to follow up on your ticket regarding the Auto Setup binding errors with the Biped and CAT skeletons.
Our development team has reviewed the MAXScript monitor logs you provided. The errors indicate a potential missing V-Ray component (VRayBitmap attribute error) and a bone array mismatch (IndexError during rigging).
To properly debug and fix these script interruptions, we still really need the specific .fbx and .json files you were trying to import.
Whenever you have a moment, please feel free to share the files via a cloud link (like Google Drive or Dropbox). Our engineers are standing by and ready to investigate this further once we have your files!
Thank you for your time.
Best regards,
Kayla
