CC5 Manual shows incorrect name for ExPlus facial profile
Hi. The Manual says that to use ARKIT blendshapes the Accuplips and ExPlus profile should be used (Point 2 on this page: https://manual.reallusion.com/Character-Creator-5/Content/ENU/5.0/08_Animation/Creating-Character-with-ARKit-Profile.htm ), but in the current version of CC5 that profile appears to be called the CC3+ Traditional profile.

Can you confirm if this is the new name for this profile, and if yes please update the docs.

I'd also really like to request a guide to successfully exporting characters with the ARKIT blendshapes properly named for use with systems like Rokoko face capture. I use it through Cinema 4D, but it would be very useful to be able to retarget the characters directly in Rokoko studio.

I spent a lot of time trying to reliably get the ARKIT exports to work in CC4, but due to them being named differently it took a lot of workarounds and didn't really work. Really hoping that the CC5 pipeline will work better :)

Cheers,
Mike

I also bought CC5 and iClone with the expectation of being able to export the 52 blendshapes/shapekeys required with IOS only to find out that none of the ARKit blendshapes are named correctly. And some of them, like JawOpen don't even work if you try to rename them. It's named something completely different, making it impossible to even run a script. Any idea when this will change or be fixed. Anxiously awaiting a reply.

Hi @matthewho, thanks for your comments and the updated link.

To check if I understand correctly, are you saying that export with ARKIT-standard blendshapes is not possible at all in CC5?

The main reason I bought CC4 (and the upgrade to CC5) was to be able to export character rigs that I could use inside of Rokoko studio or stream direct from Rokoko Studio to Cinema 4D, which require an ARKIT blendshape setup.

The CC4 product pages made a point of mentioning ARKIT compatibility, but even with custom scripting etc. I have never managed to get an export that works correctly, including using the 'Convert Skinned Expressions to Morphs' export options. The names etc. did not line up, nor did the order (which I think but am not sure of, can affect the operation).

I understand that the company would prefer users to stay fully within its own ecosystem, but right now budget does not allow for that and I would really like to be able to use CC5 to export characters with the standard ARKIT blendshapes so I can work within my current pipeline. It appears that the technology etc is in place to be able to do this, but there are barriers that have not been overcome.

Any advice would be gladly received - I have searched the forums etc many times, but I've not found a solution to this, but other people have been asking similar questions for quite a long time.

Cheers.

Hi mike_140801,

The Export FBX manual page has been moved to the following URL:
https://manual.reallusion.com/Character-Creator-5/Content/ENU/5.0/17-Export/Export-FBX.htm

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Best regards,

Hi, mike_140801,

Thank you for the message.

You are correct that the page you referenced contained information related to an older workflow. Since this workflow is no longer applicable in Character Creator 5, the page has been removed from the CC5 manual. The legacy information remains available in the CC4 manual for users who still requires the previous workflow.
https://manual.reallusion.com/Character-Creator-4/Content/ENU/4.0/08_Animation/Creating-Character-with-ARKit-Profile.htm?Highlight=arkit

For character export workflows, you may find the FBX Export documentation helpful, as it covers the available export settings and character data that can be included during export:
https://manual.reallusion.com/Character-Creator-5/Content/ENU/5.0/17_Export/Exporting_FBX.htm

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and suggestions.

Best regards,
Reallusion
