Issue 12598
Iclone 8 crashes and restarts computer when using iray - started with last update
When selecting the iray render for a project, regardless of how complicated the project is, most of the time the system not only crashes the program but also restarts my computer....the error comes up so fast, it's impossible to read fully but it is something like "IRQ Not Less Than Or Equal To" - the only time I get this crash and system crash is when starting an iray render.

Sometimes it crashes immediately, sometimes it starts to render, then crashes.

This only started after the last iClone update.

Hello Steven,

I wanted to give you an update. I had a crash today after trying to load Omniverse - "Clock-Watchdog-Timeout". Googling that message suggested an update of the BIOS and Chipset. I ended up taking it in and getting both done - BIOS update and Clean Install of the Nvidia studio driver that came out today. I also got a new cooler as the computer was running hot after tests. I was able to test it in the shop and now the iray render is working. So you can close this ticket now - thank you.

I did a clean install of the driver, it made no difference.

GPU - Nvidea 3080ti
Driver - Studio driver 596.36 (FYI, tried rolled back version, same result)
Windows 11
Attached is a series of images to show the progression and final BSOD

FYI - I also opened iClone 7 which I have not opened in some time to see if the problem was there also.....it is. Not only that, the program was extremely slow and initially gave me an error that I was not connected to the internet (I was connected) and a project took 2 minutes to open. The iray crash was the same in iClone 7.

Also - I did an extensive test of my system memory ram (took over an hour) and it found no issues.

Maybe I'll try a clean install of an earlier nvidea driver (I think when I tested the rolled back version, I might not have done a clean install) just to be sure it's not the nvidea driver - however, this issue only started after the last iClone update (not yesterday's but the one before) and I had updated my video drivers at end of April and the iray was working fine.

Hi Alley,

Based on the symptoms described, the issue appears to be related to the GPU driver or the NVIDIA Iray rendering pipeline after the latest iClone update. Since the crash is severe enough to trigger a system restart and display an “IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” blue screen error, this is likely occurring at the driver level rather than being a normal application crash.

As a first step, we would recommend performing a clean installation of the latest NVIDIA graphics driver and then testing the Iray render again.

If the issue still occurs afterward, please provide:

1. Your GPU model
2. NVIDIA driver version
3. Windows version
4. A crash dump or BSOD screenshot
5. A screen recording showing the issue occurring

This information will help us further investigate the root cause.
