Feature Request: Hybrid Character Workflow – Mapping 2D Facial Organs onto 3D Heads
To the Development Team,
I am a professional animator with 10 years of experience, and I would like to clarify a specific feature request regarding stylized character design.
The request is not about creating 2D characters. It is about the ability to use 3D bodies/heads with 2D facial features (eyes, mouth, nose) integrated directly onto them. This hybrid style is very popular in modern "absurd humor" and stylized animations, yet it is currently very difficult to achieve in 3D software.
Specifically, I am requesting a system that allows:
2D Features on 3D Meshes: The ability to replace 3D eyes or mouths with 2D animated textures or planes (düzlemler) while keeping the rest of the character in 3D.
Modular Flexibility : A system where we can choose to have a 3D nose but 2D eyes, or a 3D head with a 2D mouth. Each facial organ should be independently switchable between 2D and 3D.
Native Rigging Support: These 2D elements should still be controllable via the standard facial rig or Live Link, allowing 2D sprites to react to facial expressions.
Market Demand: Currently, animators have to use complex "workarounds" to flatten 3D faces or use custom shaders. Making this a native feature would make your software the leader for the "stylized" animation industry.
This is a vital requirement for creators who want to blend the depth of 3D environments with the expressive, hand-drawn look of 2D faces.
Thank you for your understanding and your dedication to empowering animators.
