Different quantities of verticies should not prohibit the expression editor.
The rule is purely arbitrary when "fail to load animation profile." when verts are not at the same amount.

As all that is needed are numeric values for morphs quantities.

Maybe at one time this was essential but now if I get such a message I just edit my character and delete or add a matching amount of vert by adding or deleting vertices in the unseen part of the back of the head of a character to match the required amount and everything outputs perfectly.

Which means the amount of verts has zero importance to the amount of morphing.

It would be preferable if the rule was instead a warning and load the profile regardless.
