Models Constructed in DAZ

DAZ is a 3D tool that creates sophisticated 3D scenes, props and characters. The skin mesh of a DAZ character (Genesis) has around 37K faces, which is optimal with iClone's real-time engine. The excellent multi-layer skin and clothes designs can be morphed simultaneously without causing penetration issues. You may easily create exquisite characters for iClone in a very short time.

Once the character is generated, you will be able to export the characters in FBX format and then convert them for iClone via 3DXchange.

Exporting to FBX - Optionally Downsizing the Face count

Before exporting characters in FBX, you may optionally choose to downsize the face count of the character by using the Decimate feature in DAZ. However, this task is not always necessary.

  1. Create a custom character (default Genesis character are preferred for converting to iClone).
  2. In the Scene tab, select the mesh you want to downsize (mostly the hair meshes).
  3. Go to Window >> Tabs >> Decimator.
  4. Click the Prepare to Decimate button in the pop-up panel. After the calculation, more sliders are shown in the panel.
  5. You may then drag one of the sliders or type in the value to determine the downsizing level.

The hair is decimated from 150,000 to 5,000.

  6. You may optionally downsize other meshes with the same steps before exporting the character.
  7. Click the Done button if you are satisfied with the decimated result.

Exporting to FBX - Export Settings

After the Decimate and Texture Resizing tasks, the character will then be ready to be exported in FBX format.

  1. Go to File >> Export....
  2. Browse the location to save the file. Give the file a name and click the OK button.
  3. An FBX Options panel shows.
  4. Click the Accept button to export the character.

The custom character (in *.FBX format) is now ready to be loaded into 3DXchange to be converted into a Non-Standard Human Character.

Please refer to the Processing Texture Images for Loading and Exporting FBX Character pipeline for more information about downsizing the texture images.
