This year was Reallusion's first year to attend GDC, and we made our debut with a bang, demoing both the amazing motion capture capabilities of the new iClone Mocap plug-in. |
The annual Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco is an event that sees the biggest players in the video game industry come to show off their tools for game development at what is the world's largest and longest-running professionals-only game industry event. This year was Reallusion's first year to attend GDC, and we made our debut with a bang, demoing both the amazing motion capture capabilities of the new iClone Mocap plug-in as well as the incredible potential for flexible and expanded model and motion import/export potential of 3DXchange5.
With the upcoming launch of the 3DXchange5 pipeline, video game designers and developers will be able to freely import and export models and motions from their favorite modeling and animation software thanks to the expanded support of various industry standard formats such as .OBJ, .FBX, and .BVH files. This means that developers who use models from other software will be able to easily import their models into 3DXchange5, rig them to conform with iClone character bone structure, animate them using Reallusion's exceptional animation tools and expansive motion library, and export their fully animated characters back into their native animation software. They can also export characters and motions directly into game engines such as Unity 3D.

The feedback was phenomenal, and the excitement we experienced towards iClone and 3DXchange5 from this new field was incredibly encouraging. |
Reallusion recognized the giant influence that Unity 3D has in the game designing world, and subsequently decided to make our presence known by obtaining a booth right in Unity 3D's massive exhibition area. By doing this, we were able to occupy one of the busiest areas of the entire conference, and expose the potential of iClone to a huge number of individuals, from game designers to animators, artists, and educators. The feedback was phenomenal, and the excitement we experienced towards iClone and 3DXchange5 from this new field was incredibly encouraging; no matter what field they were from, visitors immediately became aware of the potential that this Reallusion package has.

Even the most jaded of game designers couldn't help but get into the action and dance around a little to test the potential of this new and unique technology. |
Reallusion also had another larger booth at the show, in which we focused on demoing the Mocap Plug-in as a practical way to create new motions which can later be refined using iClone's powerful animation tools. This booth was tons of fun, and even the most jaded of game designers couldn't help but get into the action and dance around a little to test the potential of this new and unique technology. The Mocap Plug-in was particularly popular with the educational crowd, as many game design programs have been searching for a way to incorporate the Kinect sensor into their curriculum. They were enthralled to see the fact that Reallusion was in fact providing them with a way to do this.

There were also various connections made with other industry players, which Reallusion intends to work closely with in the future. With the amazing feedback we received from GDC, it has become very apparent to us at Reallusion that the expansion into the field of the game development field will not only be a fun ride, but a path to expanding the already astounding number of uses for our software. We'll definitely be back next year!
