| CrazyTalk is a fun piece of software that makes any picture "talk" by transforming text into synthesized voice messages, complete with synchronized lip movements and dozens of facial expressions. The program is well documented and simple to use. Just type or paste a message into CrazyTalk's Expression Editor, press a button, and the picture comes alive. CrazyTalk can save your animated message as an .exe file to share with others. Two sample images are included, with others available at the developer's Web site. However, you'll need to purchase in order to create your own talking images with CrazyTalks' Fitting Editor, which isn't included in this free demo. Reviewed on Jan 26 2001.

| Effect3D lets users of all skill levels produce pro-quality 3D objects, complete with animation and super cool 3D effects. Its slick wizard-based interface takes care of all the hard work. You should be able to produce impressive output in less than 5 minutes. Just open a project, select an object, choose an effect, adjust the effect's parameters, pick a background, tweak environment settings, select an animation, and you're ready to export your creation as an animated or static .gif file or a .bmp or .jpg file. This trial version includes 50 models and animations, plus adds the developer's Web address to all saved images. Purchase promises access to more models, the ability to import 3ds models, and removal of the watermark.

| Ever wanted to make someone your very own ventriloquist's dummy? Put words in someone's mouth? Give them ridiculous facial expressions? Well - now you can with this amazing little utility. You simply have to select the image you want, use the inbuilt facial editor to warp your face and give it the necessary animated ability to talk. You then simply type in your spiel, choose your voice and you are away. You can save as a video file or an executable or simply export the WAV. While this demo doesn't let you choose and edit your own picture, I still had fun messing about with the samples provided and before I knew it Vincent Van Gogh was blurting out all manner of profanity. The only real problem is that the output files are quite large (a few megs for only 20 seconds) , meaning this is hardly going to replace e-mail. Still, it's sooo much more fun - so get it now.
