Exporting Settings for Unity and Unreal

Unity and Unreal are 3D game engines which support FBX files with geometry and animations. However, when you export models with animations from 3DXchange, you need to modify some more settings to ensure that you get ideal animation results in these two tools.

If you have multiple animations in the Perform Editor and you want to export them all for reuse in Unity or Unreal, then it is highly recommended that the geometry and the animations should be exported separately.

Step 1: Export Geometry-Only FBX File

  1. In the Export FBX panel, select GameEngine_Unity3D from the Target Tool Preset drop-down menu. Please refer to The Settings for Exporting an FBX File section for more information about the details of the settings.
  2. Make sure the Include Animation box is NOT activated.
  3. Click the OK button to export the geometry of the model.

Step 2: Export Animation-Only FBX Files

In this step, the animations of the model will be exported into separate FBX files. The number of the files are the same as the amount in the Perform Editor.

  1. Deselect the Include Geometry box and select the Include Animation box, and select the Save One Take Per File option.
  2. Click the OK button to export the animations of the model into different files.

The geometry and the animation files can then be loaded into Unity or Unreal separately, which will ensure the correct animation result.
