Exporting Postured Characters in OBJ Format
Since the characters in iClone are modeled with complex quality meshes, you may want to
export a particular mesh and sculpt it or use the mesh as a sculpture in other 3D tools.
If you want the character's mesh to have a specific pose and export the mesh with that pose, then
you may import a pose motion file and export the mesh from 3DXchange in OBJ
format, the mesh with the pose is thus free to be re-used in other 3D tools.
The supported file formats are:
Supported File Format
|
.VNS: iClone G1/G2 characters.
.iAvatar: iClone G3/G5 characters.

Creating a Posetured Character Mesh
-
Drag and drop an iClone character into 3DXchange.
-
Click the Load Pose button in the Character section
and load a motion file (.iMotion).
(Please note that 3DXchange extracts the pose in
the first frame of the iMotion file and then applies the pose to the current character.)
-
Click the Export OBJ... (Shortcut: Ctrl + B) button in the tool bar, or execute the
File >> Export to Other 3D Format >> Export OBJ...
command to export the mesh with the pose in OBJ file.
-
Load the file into any 3D tool (in this case, 3DS Max) that supports OBJ
format.
If you load an iClone standard character to 3DXchange and directly
export it in OBJ format, then you may see the breaking gaps between body parts.
In order to fix this issue and create a seamless character mesh, please follow the steps below:
-
Export the character in FBX format.
-
In the Export FBX panel, make sure the
Merge Body Part as a Single Mesh
check box is activated. Click the OK button to export the character.
-
Reload the FBX character. Apply the same pose again.
-
Export the character in OBJ format. The breaking issue will be resolved.
