About Back Face

The back face in SketchUp ensures the two sides of a polygon to be visible. And you can not select single side of them individually. However, in 3DXchanage, these two sides will be dissect into two different mesh node so that you may decrease the size of the model for exporting VNS files by means of “Exclude the Back Faces”.

Back Faces in SketchUp (View Video)

  1. Please make a cube and a square polygon face in SketchUp.

  2. Draw a rectangle on one face of the cube.

  3. Delete the face in the rectangle.

  4. The so-called back faces are the blues faces inside the cube.

  5. Rotate the scene so the camera pans to the other side of the square polygon face.

  6. You may notice that the other side is also blue. It is back face of this polygon face, too. Save as SKP file.

Back Faces in 3DXchange (View Video)

  1. Import the file in the last section into 3DXchange.

  2. Check the scene tree, you may find a node named with “back side”.

  3. Check off the box next to this node to exclude it. You may also see the change in the 3D viewer.

Note:

  • Please notice that the number of the polygon face decreases.
  • It is recommended to keep the back faces if you intend to map different textures on the two sides of one same face.
