Timeline

Advanced Timeline Editor

iClone4 PRO delivers ultimate productivity with track editing and precise timing control of all dynamic movie elements - Actors, Props, Accessories, Lightings, Camera, Particle Effects, Materials, Image Layers, Video, Background, etc. The total Timeline panel and animation editing tracks are the major difference between iClone4 PRO and Standard editions.

Use the Timeline to also define and collect action segments from your scenes and export them as custom actor animation and prop animation files to increase the iClone content library.

Track Grouping and Rearrangement

Track Rearrangement Sub-Track On/Off

The grouped tracks help categorize the function with flexible control.
Group related tracks in the same category.
Toggle on/off individual track.

Timeline Editor, the Complete Control Panel for All Movie Elements

Expandable and collapsible track design allows you to focus editing on single or multiple tracks.

Auto track focus switches the active Timeline to the object you currently have selected in your project.

Launch actor animation and iProp interactions from the right-click menu and the Timeline will automatically add the appropriate motion clips and keyframes to the actor or iProp timeline tracks.

Play-to-Create Live Motion Recording

Director Mode live recording automatically updates the Timeline data for further editing.

Control cameras, iProps and puppet actors to walk, jump and perform any combination of motion clips on the stage with live interactive control (W,A,S,D hotkeys or compatible gamepad). Live recorded actor animation will be added to the Timeline without the need for frame-by-frame posing and animation.

Director Mode Full Reset to remove the current recording sessions changes and reverts to the original state before entering into Director Mode.

Multiple Undo (Ctrl-Z) for incremental corrections when the Full Reset is more than you need.

Transition Curve for Natural Animation

In iClone, you may set keys or add clips in different tracks. However, the interpolating can be customized to different methods so that the transition speed between two adjacent keys or clips can be dynamic, which can imitate the physical characteristics of the moving object in the real world.

Transition methods: Linear, Ease In, Ease Out, Ease In & Out, Ease Out & In, Step.

Multiple Character Tracks

Selection (Export) – Click and drag to define a selected region and export the clips and keyframes from one or multiple tracks as a custom content file.

Command - Move
The data recorded in Director Mode and the Motion Capture files from the library; each appears as a motion clip that can be blended or cut with other motions.

Command - Transform
The location of the character as determined by x,y,z coordinates of the actor’s world position and appears as keyframes.

Command - Perform
The interactive motion clips triggered by the 0-9 number keys or triggered by other actions. Appeared as motion clips.

Command - Operate
Interactive motion clips between actors and iProps or props.

Transform
Move or rotate the position of the actor.

Motion - Motion Layer
Editing the layer to add and blend additional actor animation to what is already on the Timeline. For example, your actor can walk with a Move motion clip and you can use the Motion Layer to edit and pose the actor bones to create a waving arm motion. The result is a walking and waving actor. Motion Layers appear as keyframes (Inverse Kinematics and Forward Kinematics).

Motion - L & R Hand
Manage hand gesture behavior and individual finger movement, speed change and smooth blending. Appears as Motion Clips or Keyframes in the Timeline.

NEW! Face
Voice and Facial Expressions. Every actor has a unique Face track to record audio with automatic lip sync and emotional behavior selection. Import audio for new animation or CrazyTalk files from existing animation. Use neutral modes for non-speaking facial animation. Multiple actor dialog can be timed with each other perfectly by opening and simultaneously editing the location of each actor’s voice track. The Face track displays facial animation as a motion clip.

Constraint - Look-at
Assign an object, actor or camera to automatically look-at another object, actor or camera and always follow its movement. Actors look with eyes and head independently for realistic gazing. Use the keyframes to toggle look-at on and off or switch the look-at target.

Constraint - Link
Set actors, props, particles, accessories or cameras to link or unlink to any object or actor, eg. get in the car, get out of the car.

NEW! Constraint - Path
Define the relationship between the actor and the path.

Visible
Turn on/off in-scene visibility of any object with keyframe control.

NEW! Sound
Individual sound track for each actor.

Facial Track Editing

iClone4 interfaces facial animation with revolutionary real-time puppeteering controls empowering you with command over character facial expressions. Puppet to get your desired motion and save it as an expression clip in Timeline. Fine-tune your expression by setting keyframes in the facial layer track. With Timeline editor, users are allowed to move the position of the clip or key for precise expression tuning.

Collect Animation Clips for Persona and iProps Animation

Use the Selection tool to group and export selected track data in the Prop track to transform static props into animated iProps. Add the export to the collected data as a file in your custom prop library.

Allow the creation of animated props directly within iClone4; add more functionality to content creators and alleviate the need to create animated props only in 3DS MAX.

Flexible Clip Collection which allows you to precisely define the actor motion output and build new libraries of animation.

Complete Motion Editing with Advanced Timeline Motion Tracks

Motion Layer
Generate key poses and tween their animation with motion layering. Precisely control the timing of all actor animation with the motion layer and add or blend additional actor animation to what is already on the Timeline (Inverse Kinematics and Forward Kinematics IK/FK).

Perform Track:
Easily change speed and loop motion.

Move Track:
Record all move data recorded from Director Mode.
Combine multiple motions with smooth transition blending.

Break Motion:
Separate one motion into 2 or more clips for further editing or motion segment removal or reversal.
Motion clip and keypose Copy and Paste.

Foot Step Alignment:
Enhances motion of combination and blending of 2 motions.

Export Selection:
Select and export motion segment as a custom animation motion file.

Command Tracks Optimization – Flexibility to Move One or All Related Clips

After you complete an "Operation" command (e.g. make the actor pick up a cup), you will be able to change the position of the motion of the actor and the timing when the cup linked to the actor's hand simultaneously.

Advanced Multiple Camera Timeline System

Lens DOF Look-at Link vs.Unlink

Professionally Direct the Camera

Use multiple cameras in a location shoot or setup a traditional 3 camera rig to film your scenes. The camera system adds customization, control and precise timing for every take.

Lens adjustment and animation to achieve vertigo and zooming effects.

Depth of Field (DOF) animates the focal range of the camera to achieve filmmaking effects like rack focusing.

Link / Unlink cameras to any object or actor for easy camera follow. The camera moves with the linked object or actor when they are animated.

Look-at controls and follows the camera view target from the camera location. The camera will stay stationary when the 'Look-at' subject moves while keeping turned toward it and looking at it.

Smooth Camera: provide camera path smooth to simulate the natural camera operation in real production.

Camera Switch

Precisely control the multiple camera switch from a director’s view. Determine the live camera view with keyframes to capture multiple angles of the same shot with all the cameras in the scene and then finalize the order the camera views will export.
