Material Effects

Multiple Texturing Effect and Material Library

  • Create and import a JPG, BMP, PNG file as a custom texture. Support PNG import with transparency map.
  • Texture channels include diffuse, opacity (mask and alpha transparency), bump (normal), glow, specular, and reflection.
  • Adjust parameters for textures to fine-tune their appearance. Launching image editing software to edit the texture design.
  • Real-time display of multiple texture effects.
  • Load and save (export) texture files for actors, props and accessories.
  • Multi-texture Materials Library with seamless tiling capability.
  • Text Message to separate and categorize.
  • NEW! Full asset of material library for drag and drop assignment.
    >> More about Full Set of Realistic Textures
  • Use Material Picker to select target material from a 3D model with multiple materials.
  • Individual texture channel has its own Material UV Settings, which enables combined multi-texturing effects with different UV assignments.
  • Color adjustment can be applied to individual texture channels.
  • Save material settings to material library (iMTL) for repeat use.

Material Key Frame Animation

The material textures can be animated by editing key frames. Tuning the strength of each texture channel, you can create amazing visual effects as below.

Diffuse Map

  • Use the diffuse channel to display the main texture from its base color.
  • Combined with color settings (ambience, diffuse, specular) and surface reflective nature (specular, glossiness, illumination), users can change the material nature from mud to steel, from a flat look to an impressive depth.
  • NEW! Texture Blending: Overlay, Multiply, Addition.

Opacity Map

  • Use the opacity map as the alpha channel, or mask out the 3D shape.
  • Create glass or window using opacity map.
  • Fade in and fade out 3D objects.
  • Reveal the object behind the walls.
  • Objects materialize or "beam in" like in a sci-fi flick.

Bump Map

  • Change the bump strength to show or hide the bump patterns.
  • Bump maps add high detail and realism to low polygon models, such as rocks and mosaic tiles.
  • Combine with angled lighting and specular value to stand out the bump effect.

Glow Map

  • Change the glow strength to increase and decrease the glow range.
  • Change the glow color and glow patterns using color adjustment - hue, saturation, brightness, contrast.
  • Create glowing animation such as:
    • Christmas light glows on and off.
    • Neon sign blinks on and off.
    • Shimmering street lamp.
    • Star twinkling in the nightly sky.

Specular Map

  • Make the surface look wet or shiny by turning down the specular strength.
  • Simulate the soaked scene in the rain.
  • Combine with specular and glossiness to show the best effect.

Reflection Map

  • Make reflective surface such as a crystal ball, soap bubble, glass window, waxed wood floor, and shinny new car.

Texture UV Mapping and Tiling

  • Access precise UV reference maps to view texture painting guides.
  • Generate UV maps for 3D models, including Plane, Box, Spherical, Cylindrical, and Capped Cylindrical.
  • Tile, rotate, and offset textures for increased accuracy and flexibility of texture alignment.
  • Use UV iProps to custom UV animation effects. >> More Info
  • Export UV texture animation from 3D Studio MAX with iClone Plugin.
  • NEW! UV map orientation adjustment - Rotate, Mirror, Invert.

Blend Map

  • Use Blend Map to add realism or create filtering effects to your object. (e.g. aged, dirt or polish).
  • 3 Blend options: Multiply, Addition, and Overlay.
  • Other texture channels and neutralized blend map for UV adjustment.

External Texture Access

  • Import the texture as "External Texture" to spare your hard drive and get better performance.
  • Adjust the parameters of the external texture to simultaneously change the looks of several objects.

Texture Fast Editing - Pick and Paint

  • Eyedropper - to collect material info from specific texture surface in an object.
  • Paint Bucket - to paint and apply the same materials quickly on the surfaces of different objects.

Video & Dynamic Texturing

  • With iClone4, the popular video formats (AVI, WMV, MOV, RM/RMVB, MPEG, FLV, ASF) can be imported into the texture channels like Diffuse, Opacity, Bump, Specular, Glow, Reflection, and Blend in every actor or object.
